Weekly Acorn #43
For the past several months my posts have been about the creation of Oak Crest from the beginning to the creation and subdivisions of each street. This was done in chronological order. Now I am going to wrap up this multi-part series by briefly summarizing each of the 27 original parcels (in numerical order) from June 1923 – present. I am including the original (June 1923) plat and a current (August 2004) plat for comparison.
Parcel 1 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot and the second oldest house in OC was built on it in 1925. The parcel now consists of two lots containing two houses fronting Polo Rd, and a tiny portion contains part of Silas Creek Pky.
Parcel 2 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot. It now conststs of four lots with two houses fronting Polo Rd and two houses fronting Friendship Cr.
Parcel 3 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot. It now consists of two lots containing two newer houses fronting Friendship Cr and a large portion behind those lots contains about half of the Crowne Polo apartment complex, and a small portion of it contains part of Silas Creek Pky.
Parcel 4 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot. It now consists of two lots with three houses fronting Friendship Cr and the remaining large portion behind those lots contains the other half of the Crowne Polo apartment complex.
Parcels 5 & 6 – These two parcels were purchased by the Buena Vista Co and Freds Rd was created circa August 1923 – March 1927 (probably closer to 1927 though) with 8 lots along each side of the street. Most of the property along Freds Rd is owned by the Nisbet family and is not developed except for their home. There are two other homes at the end of the street owned by other families.
Parcel 7 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot. It now consists of two lots containing two houses fronting Friendship Cr and the remaining large portion consists of beautiful rolling hills and pasture and a pond belonging to the resident of one of the houses.
Parcels 8 & 9 – These parcels were purchased by the Buena Vista Co and Idlewild Drive was created in May 1936 with 26 lots with four lots fronting Friendship Cr and 22 lots fronting Idlewild Dr. The parcels now consist of 36 lots containing 24 houses with one fronting Friendship Cr and 23 fronting Idlewild Dr. This is not counting the subdivisions of Idlewilde Ct and Idlewilde Heath. I will soon be adding another part (hopefully the final part) to this series with important information about Idlewilde Ct and Idlewilde Heath.
This original 1923 plat and current (2004) map of Oak Crest are shown together here for comparison to illustrate how the original 27 parcels were subdivided including Nading’s Addition which became Crepe Myrtle Cr and part of Polo Rd. Click on the plat and map above to view an expanded version or visit the entire Historic Oak Crest Photo Gallery.
Next week I will continue this part with parcels 10-18.
