Oak Crest (Part 15) – Summary Of The Original 27 Parcels – Continued

Weekly Acorn #44

This week I am continuing the summary of the original 27 parcels of Oak Crest with lots 10-18.

Parcel 10 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot and one house was built on it fronting Friendship Cr.  Over the years the parcel has been split up into several sections.  One of those sections became a lot with another house on it, but it is located in the middle of the original parcel.   Another large section in the middle of the parcel remains undeveloped and is owned by WFU.  The remaining section at the rear of the parcel was joined with a lot on Idlewild Dr and was subdivided into 11 lots and small A framed houses were built on what is now Idlewild Ct.  Idlewild Ct is now Block 6077 in the Forsyth County Geo-data Explorer.

Parcel 11 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot with one house built on it that fronts Polo Rd.  There is also a small house in the back that is used as a rental house.  This entire parcel remains as one lot and is now owned by WFU.

Parcel 12 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot, but was eventually split into two lots.  It now consists of two lots containing two houses that front Polo Rd.  Also, both of these houses contain a separate building behind them, each divided into multiple apartments   This entire parcel is now owned by WFU.

Parcel 13 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot and contains one house that fronts Polo Rd.  This entire parcel remains as one lot and is now owned by WFU.

Parcel 14 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot along with the adjacent parcels 15 and 23 to become a farm containing the oldest house in Oak Crest built in 1925.  Eventually parcels 15 and 23 were sold off and parcel 14 was divided into two lots.   It now consists of two lots containing two houses, with the original farm house fronting Polo Rd and the second lot and house fronting Friendship Cr.  The farm house is still owned by a member of the original family who built it.

Parcel 15 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot and was part of the farm from parcel 14.  Later the parcel was sold and eventually divided into three lots.  It now consists of three lots containing three houses all fronting Friendship Cr.

Parcel 16 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot, but later sold again and split up.  It now consists of three lots containing three houses all fronting Friendship Cr.

Parcel 17 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot, but later sold again and split up.  It now consists of three lots containing three houses all fronting Friendship Cr.

Parcel 18 – This parcel was originally sold as one lot, but later sold again and split up.  It now consists of three lots (one very tiny lot) containing two houses both fronting Friendship Cr.

This original 1923 plat and current (2004) map of Oak Crest are shown together here for comparison to illustrate how the original 27 parcels were subdivided including Nading’s Addition which became Crepe Myrtle Cr and part of Polo Rd.  Click on the plat and map above to view an expanded version or visit the entire Historic Oak Crest Photo Gallery.

Next week I will conclude this part with parcels 19-27 and Nading’s Addition.  Then the following week I will add another part (hopefully the final part) to this series with some newly discovered information about Idlewilde Ct and Idlewilde Heath and a correction to Weekly Acorn #38 (Part 9) of this series concerning these subdivisions.
