Weekly Acorn #46
Well, just when I thought I had completed this multi-part series, I discovered some additional information that changes some statements I made in an earlier post and also includes additional territory to Oak Crest.
I will begin with what I said in an earlier post (Weekly Acorn #38) that neither Idlewilde Ct and Idlewilde Heath were considered part of Oak Crest. The reason I said this was because I thought these two subdivisions extended beyond original Oak Crest boundries. Then I discovered some newer versions of the plats and realized that both subdivisions are indeed part of Oak Crest. So, lets begin with Idlewilde Ct.
Just a quick review, Idlewild Dr was created and subdivided from original Oak Crest parcels 8 and 9 in May 1936. The Buena Vista Co had purchased the parcels from the Fries brothers, who created Oak Crest.
Near the end of the street just before the cul-de-sac on the east side is lot #16 (193 Idlewild Dr). Annie M. Trivette was the second owner of this lot which she (and her husband) purchased in June 1936. They built a house on it in 1939. Then in November 1941, T G and Annie M Trivette purchased a portion of the original Oak Crest parcel 10 on the northeast side (lots 202A & 202B) that adjoined their property.
In January 1982, Thomas Gaston Trivette was listed as sole owner of both properties. Then in September 1982 a group by the name of Idlewilde Associates was listed as the owner. I am not sure if Mr Trivette was associated with this group, but I suspect he was. Anyway, the house was left intact and a small street was cut along the south edge of the property and extending the full length of this very long stretch (approx 100 ft) of land. This street was named Idlewilde Ct. A second street was started off of Idlewilde Ct (intended to run North onto the adjacent property) but only extends about 70 feet and stops. Perhaps the owner had intended to purchase the adjacent property on the north side and extend the new subdivision, but that never happend.
The property was subdivided into 11 lots (numbered 101-111) of various shapes and sizes but large enough to fit a house. Lot #101 is closest to Idlewild Dr and contains the original house. Small A framed houses were built on each of the other lots in 1982 and sold individually.
Additionally, Lot #17 (183 Idlewilde Dr) currently contains one house that was built in 1941, but the property is split up into 4 small lots. The house is located on the lot closest to Idlewild Dr and the other three front Idlewilde Ct, but they do not contain houses. All 4 lots (and house) have the same owner.
This current (2004) map of Oak Crest (left) and original plat of the Idlewilde Ct subdivision (right) are shown together here for comparison to illustrate how portions of the original parcels 9 & 10 were subdivided to create Idlewilde Ct. The map shows lot #16 (of parcel 9) near the cul-de-sac of Idlewild Dr and the northeast portion of parcel 10 of Oak Crest and is outlined in green to show the boundries of the Idlewilde Ct subdivision. Click on the map and plat above to view an expanded version or visit the entire Historic Oak Crest Photo Gallery.
Next week I will conclude this series by discussing the creation of Idlewilde Heath.
